I find it pretty incredible how there are so many parallels between Russia in the early 20th century, and America now...it makes you think about whether or not history is doomed to repeat itself, regardless of the damage we've seen done by it. Artists often try to foreshadow the consequences of such political patterns (in this case, Animal Farm by George Orwell hits the revolutionary nail in the Russian head), but it seems to be inevitable. I pose two questions to you all: 1. How do you think the Russian Revolution has affected the United States? 2. Do you believe a revolution like this one in Russia is bound to happen in the United States, and if so, why or why not?

One way the Russian Revolution has affected the United States is how the United States treats minorities. Lenin and the Bolsheviks were very concerned with the treatment of minorities. They believed it was the upper class fault on why African-Americans and other minorities could not achieve the level of success as white people. The United States would take a few more decades to improve the life of minorities in the U.S
ReplyDeleteFor the second question, I do believe there might be a revolution in the future, I hope not. One reason I think that there might be a revolution is the political polarization in this country. Your either a liberal democrat or a conservative republican, there is no in-between. For example, you either hate President Trump or you love him. Because of the polarization in this country nothing or very little gets done, and when nothing get done, liberals blame the conservatives and conservatives blame the liberals. And this how a revolution starts.
After a lot of study in history at Ithaca College, I have come to the conclusion that history is not a time line but a time LOOP. To add to Dylan's comment, I think the Russian Revolution has affected the way the United States treats the immigrant population. I mean, think about the current refugee crisis and how these ideals trace back to revolutions that have occurred in other countries.
ReplyDeleteThe definition of a revolution is: a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system. I do not believe it will be a violent overthrow, but a strategic one because of our new President elect.
